Just In: Netlify is joined by Quirrel and Launches Beta Version of the Scheduled Functions Feature

Creator of Quirrel, Simon Knott joins the Netlify team today! Simon is also a maintainer for Blitz.js features a “Zero-API” data layer abstraction that eliminates the need for REST/GraphQL.

“Quirrel is an open source solution and service for managing and scheduling the execution of serverless functions and jobs. “

This addition to the team brings so much potential to what the team can add to Netlify as we know it . It allows them tap into the expertise of Simon, who is also creator of SuperJSON.

In 2018, we embarked on a mission to bring serverless functions to the Jamstack without sacrificing the simplicity, collaboration, and performance that you’ve come to expect from Netlify. As we evolve Netlify Functions, we expect Simon’s expertise in the open source and serverless space to support the team at Netlify in continuing innovations around executing external APIs, scheduling functions, and more.” Netlify says in an official publication to launch its new team member and feature.

In tandem with this, and inspired by Quirrel,  Netlify announces beta version of a cool new feature that allows Netlify users to run functions on a consistent schedule. It also allows users to turn functions into schedules functions when they opt in to the feature.

Read the documentation on the Netlify Labs repository  for a detailed description of how the schedule functions feature is going to work.
